What is bleach and how does it work?
Bleach or sodium hypochlorite is a household cleaning product that, diluted in water, is a fairly effective and widely used disinfectant. This disinfectant has a very strong odor and, since it generates a certain rejection, many manufacturers disguise it with lemon and citrus aromas, among others.
Bleach has three main uses : cleaning, disinfection, and whitening, which is why it is so common for home use. According to these uses, it has several applications:
- Kitchens and bathrooms.
- Washing machine: only with white clothes.
- Moldy surfaces: removes it in areas with humidity.
It is very important that you be careful when diluting the bleach in water: you have to avoid splashing and calculate the doses well so as not to add excess product and that the solution is not too strong.
Does bleach disinfect coronavirus?
Bleach is a very effective disinfectant, of course. However ... is any brand of bleach good for disinfecting COVID-19?
The Ministry of Health has published a official list of the products that they authorize as virucidal disinfectants effective to combat coronavirus and not all brands of bleach are part of that list.
There are several alternatives to traditional bleach that can be taken into account when achieving effective disinfection of the coronavirus, as is the case with Virucida Cleanpill tablets. These tablets appear as an alternative to conventional bleach, which are also authorized as one of the 41 official products on the list. And also, they meet the standard UNE EN 14476 and they are registered: they are bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal.
